Wal-Mart plans to cut 11,200 jobs
Country’s largest retailer, Wal-Mart Stores has announced it plans to reduce about 11,200 jobs at its Sams Club warehouses, the company employees were told in a memo on Sunday.
Wal-Mart would be cutting approximately 1,200 membership recruiting jobs. This is equivalent to two jobs in each of its more than 600 Sams Club stores.
Wal-Mart is also laying off another 10,000 employees who demonstrate products in its Sams Club stores. Further, these demonstrations including food sampling will be outsourced to Shopper Events, a marketing company based in Arkansas. Shopper Events is already handling some of the demonstrations at Wal-Mart stores.
The spokesperson for Wal-Mart, David Tovar, however clearly stated that the newly announced lay-offs were not a measure taken for cost-cutting and that the laid-off employees can apply for jobs with Shopper Events, which is also looking for as many new recruits.
