The distinction between a laptop and a desktop computer is well known. Yet in terms of functionality a laptop isn’t inferior to the desktop any longer. Let’s rewind back 15 years and a laptop wasn’t something it is today. You could only wish that someday your office could be replaced from those heavy workstations with literally a mess of wiring at the back. Guess what? Today its mostly laptops in offices. Just open up and start work. Simple, efficient and what a beautiful way to work.
Let’s take the case of storage. Bill Gates legendary words “640K ought to be enough for anybody” may seem like a joke now but around 15 years ago 1 GB seemed almost what aeroplanes must have seemed to a caveman. Those 1024 GB is pretty normal. Talking about Flash Drives there was a time in very recent history of less than 10 years ago when a Flash Drive of 64 MB seemed like SIXTY FOUR MEGA BYTES….that much.
Yesterday I was at the Sandisk Global Launch (more on that later). Sandisk has developed the flash drive to the size of less than half a thumb and the storage is 128 GB. That would mean 131072 MB which is 2048 times higher than the 64 mb Flash Drive that used to be there 10 years ago and more than double the size. Quite an achievement. ![]()
