What are the key features of the new Medigap policy ?

Some of the key features of the new Medigap policy are:

* The new policy will cover Hospice part A coinsurance as a basic benefit. Plan K will cover 50% and Plan L will cover 75% of the inpatient respite care and out patient respite care costs.

* Plan M provides 50% of the Medicare Part A deductible but does not cover Part B deductible.

* Plan N will cover the $1,100 Part A deductible in full. It will charge a $20 co-payment for doctor visits and a $50 co-payment for emergency-room visits.

* Both the plans M and N are similar to Plan F but do not cover Part B “excess charge” (the additional cost that your doctor charges more than Medicare allows) that is covered by Plan F.

As the new plans require you to pay a portion of the Part B coinsurance, you will be able to lower your monthly premiums. Another advantage of the new Medigap policy is that if you apply for it within six months of your signing up for Medicare Part B for the first time, you can qualify for it regardless of your health.
