Google, Karma and I
Google and I have some good karma this year it seems. Every time I do a Google story it instantly gets good ratings. In August my story “Is Gmail going Offline?” was picked up by over 7,523 news sites across the world. It also figured on prominent sites like Techcrunch, Wired, Zdnet etc. Google and my good karma continued in my early November story on Open Social, (Open Social, a Masterstroke by Google.) It not just figured in the top news on Google news homepage for a few days but also invited some really inspiring comments like this one below:
Daniel DeConinck to puneet Nov 4
Hello Puneet,
You are an excellent technology journalist. You grasp the fundamental essence of a story and communicate it in a clear efficient manner.
When I saw you were from india I was surprised. I know that about 10 or 20% of executives in silicon valley are indian and that indians excel in IT, however the Indian journalism that I have read in the past has looked like it was written by high school students.
Very refreshing to see the highest calibre of journalism following from India.
Please tell me honestly, do I sound like an ignorant racist American ?
P.S. - I line in Toronto Canada. ( surrounded by Indians )
Sincerely Daniel DeConinck,

Now that surely sounds nice. Just for information the comments I receive can be best categorized into informative, appreciative and (politely termed) constructive.
If this year was the phase of good karma between Google and me I wonder what karma it was when I wrote the story ‘Shame on you Google” a year and a half ago when Google sold itself to the Chinese.
