As noise control assumes greater priority, acoustic nonwovens
materials are finding application in an increasing number of end-user
markets across North America. These include automotive, appliances,
marine, office partitions, and aviation, among others and the
increasing uptake among these sectors is helping the overall growth of
the North American acoustic nonwovens markets. The automobile segment,
however, remains the largest and most lucrative application segment,
accounting for 83.3 percent of the total market in 2005. Read more

The Emotional Computer

Computers that read your mind

Around a year ago I had written a column on a project called MyLifeBits, a Microsoft research project, that records every byte, every conversation, every emotion, every photo you clicked, every line you typed, every word you said. An archive of that could recall nearly every waking moment of a person’s life. Now comes another interesting project that could reshape the entire technological and advertising arena.

Compliance with regulatory standards were among the key components that drove demand for backup power solutions between 2004 and 2005 as organizations were forced to advance existing IT networks to ensure better tracking systems and improve accountability. Back up power is deployed to ensure uptime of these networks as well as to protect these against the damages caused by power abnormalities. Demand for backup power is not expected to halt in the following years either. The adoption of next generation blade server technology as well as the transition to IP telephony is expected to a put strain on the power infrastructure and the overall datacenter environment. Both power and heat density per square foot is expected to accelerate. Read more

New Media Censorship in India

An IT savvy nation we definitely are. Maybe even an IT super power. We are also a nation that produces the best programmers in the world. IT has also ignited the entrepreneurial spirit like no other technology before. Yet we are also a nation of IT illiterate bureaucrats and politicians who have no idea about the new media and what it means. We are a democracy yet at the smallest opportunity our babus jump with the red tape. Just two weeks ago I wrote an article “Censoring the Blog” on the unfortunate Chinese censorship and just a week after that our government rushed on censoring the blogosphere as if it was in competition with China. All currently available antiplatelet drugs viz- Aspirin, PLAVIX(r) ,
Persantine, Aggrastat, and Ticlid are toxic. The CAPRIE (1996) study
showed that the largest selling antiplatelet drugs PLAVIX(r)
(Clopidogrel) and Aspirin are quite toxic with over 50% of those who
take either of them suffer from various toxic side effects. Of course,
the added attraction for PLAVIX(r) is high cost, especially for the
non-responders without any effect on platelet aggregation.

Advancements in fieldbus controlled valve automation has been driven
by the need to reduce costs, operator intervention and footprint on
the field. The ability to control and manage processes has increased
to a great extent where field devices can execute process control
loops. In comparison to the analogue transmission system the fieldbus

“This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know
what to do with it.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson quotes (American Poet, Lecturer and Essayist, 1803-1882)

There are good times and there are bad times. Bad times don’t last
long; bad news is that neither do good times last very long. Five
years ago nobody had imagined the web would be such a boom. Remember
everything with a dot com was perceived a losing proposition, the
great dotcom crash and ’school boys can’t run businesses’ etcetera.
Just two years before that everything with a web address seemed like a
road to a gold mine. Back to the present, what we are now witnessing
is a boom phase. A boom time that is based on pure fundamentals having
inherent growth and profitability strength. Read more
