As the pressure on Pakistan continues, Pakistani press has reported that one of the four Lashkar leaders, the UN Security Council declared terrorists in its resolution in New York on Thursday is dead.

According to the sketchy details available, Mohammed Ashraf, the Jamaat-ud Dawa’s finance secretary died in June 2002, while he was still under detention. Reports also say that Mohammed Ashraf was arrested twice by General Musharraf. During his second detention he fell ill, and died in a civil hospital in Hyderabad, Sindh. At least nine workers were killed and six others injured in a mine explosion in Russia’s northern Murmansk region, said police officials on Friday. The incident occurred on Thursday as workers were preparing to carry out a controlled explosion at the Rasvumchorrsky mine, eight kilometres from the town of Kirovsk. Further sources state that there are still three people missing after the blast.

While rescue officials are searching for the missing people, there can be no definite number of serious casualties reported. The injured were rushed to a hospital and the cause of the blast is being investigated.

President-elect Barack Obama called on Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to resign on Wednesday following his arrest on corruption charges. The president-elect agrees that under the current circumstances it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois, stated Robert Gibbs, Obama’s spokesman, while speaking to the Washington Post.

Blagojevich was arrested on Tuesday on multiple corruption charges, including that he sought bribes and political favours from those being considered to take Obama’s vacated Senate seat. Gibbs said Obama believed that the Illinois state legislature should move to takeover the responsibility for replacing Obama in the Senate or should hold a special election

Australian detectives have charged 19 men as being part of a global child pornography-sharing network involving 70 countries say police sources. The Australian Federal Police had identified three more suspects in a yearlong investigation into the Internet by sharing illicit imagessay sources.

The investigation was prompted by information from Brazilian police in December last year. The police in Australia have seized 500,000 images of child abuse and 15,000 videos, some showing children being abused for more than two hours. The victims were as young as 12 months old, said the statement.
